At Orchids House Farm, we primarily focus on the feedlot system in managing the bulls. The feedlot sits on less than 1 acre where we make the most of a small space for maximum output. The feedlot has a capacity to hold up to 1000 heads of cattle and 600 goats at any single moment of time.
We grow our own maize and soya plus make the silage with other feed additives like molasses all on the farm using both a traditional & modern feedlot approach. This ensures that our bulls grow at a rate of 1 kg per day for the 3 months they are at the farm. We have 200 Acres of land dedicated to holding the animals and grow the fodder needed.
The bulls are of Boran and Charolais breed while the goats are South African Boar and 75% Savannah. The goats are reared mainly for breeding purposes.
